In the United States, the right to vote is one of the bedrock principles upon which this nation was founded. The Bring the Vote Home initiative was created to help sustain this right for homebound individuals, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
Bring the Vote Home is a voluntary community initiative dedicated to assisting homebound senior citizens and disabled Americans, their family members, and their home health caregivers to exercise their right to vote. Home care providers and beneficiaries make up a rapidly growing portion of the population, and their concerns and values should be heard and reflected by all elected officials. Bring the Vote Home seeks to make that goal a reality.
Nearly 3.5 million receive Medicare home healthcare services, which are delivered by approximately 500,000 skilled home healthcare professionals. Because these beneficiaries must be homebound in order to be eligible for the Medicare home health benefit, they may be unable to travel to their local polling place to participate in the 2012 election process. Bring the Vote Home 2012 is dedicated to helping them overcome this obstacle so they can participate in the nation's important national and state elections.
Our voter registration services are available without regard to political preference. Information and other assistance regarding registration or voting shall not be withheld or refused on the basis of support for or opposition to particular candidates or a particular party.
We look forward to working with you on this important initiative. Together, we’ll ensure the homecare community’s voice is heard in this year’s elections!
More than 1.1 millions home healthcare professionals like you deliver care to millions of American seniors and disabled everyday. You make a difference in their lives every day, but you can make an even greater difference.
Because a majority of our patients are homebound, many can’t make it to the polling booth in order to exercise their right to vote. During this election season, you can help your patients participate in important local, state and national elections by joining Bring the Vote Home.
What is Bring the Vote Home?
Bring the Vote Home is a nationwide citizenship project coordinated by the nation’s home health community to help America’s approximately 12 million home healthcare patients, including 3.5 Medicare beneficiaries, and more than 1.1 million skilled healthcare professionals exercise their right to vote in national and state elections this November.
Why is it important?
The home healthcare community - and the millions of American seniors we care for - have the important opportunity to vote for lawmakers who will stand up for the interests of our patients and our profession. Our homebound patients may not be able to travel to the polls, but we can help them make their voices heard.
